Machine Shop Operations Manager

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking to grow the business and need someone with experience, leadership and vision who can help manage the shop. If you are an experienced machinist or machine shop lead and looking to grow, this is an opportunity to be responsible for a 12-person, full-service machine shop. You’ll report directly to the owner helping to run the shop and grow the business.

                                                                                                                            

JOB TASKS

  • Help quote and plan jobs

  • Maintain the shop schedule to ensure we meet customer expectations and profitability

  • Supervise and mentor team from apprentice-level to experienced machinists helping with job planning, setups and machine operation as necessary

  • Maintain shop equipment including CNC and conventional machines and tools, jigs and inspection equipment

  • Reduce set up times and machining times through process improvements

  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications

  • Maintain shop organization, safety and cleanliness

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Experience operating conventional and CNC lathes and mills

  • Experience performing machinery repairs

  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints

  • Ability to work independently and supervise team members effectively 

  • Experience with computer systems, Microsoft Office and shop management software (E2 Shop preferred)

  • Experience with all kinds of inspection tools (CMM experience desired)

 

ABOUT US

Washington Machine Works is an independent Seattle machine shop specializing in precision machining of large industrial parts. We are known for our quality, attention to detail and customer service. Located in the Seattle Georgetown neighborhood, WMW has been machining parts since 1985 for diverse customers in the marine, aerospace, pulp and paper and specialty metals industries. WMW also does maintenance, repair and refurbishing work for many area industrial facilities. The shop has two 10-ton cranes, a 16-foot swing vertical lathe, two large horizontal boring mills, two CNC machining centers and two CNC lathes. Various other mills, lathes and drill-presses round out the capabilities. The average tenure of a machinist is over 15 years. We pride ourselves on great quality and being a great place to work.

  • Competitive salary depending on experience
